Description: This is perhaps the best etude book currently available for the intermediate student. Because there are no formal etudes in this book, but rather 'real' pieces, including jigs, hornpipes, medieval tunes, music by Bach, Handel and Telemann, music from China, Italy and even selections from various works by Claude Bolling. Each study is categorized by key signature, time signature, and various concepts indexed in the back of the book, including: articulation, dynamics, tone, ornamentation and rare time signatures. In the margins of each study are helpful hints, a bit of history about the genre/composer and a list of other studies in the book the student might enjoy using similar concepts.
