Title: Improve Your Scales! Flute Grades 1-3
Publisher: London: Faber Music, 2000
Type: Etude
Level: 2-3
Rating: 2 star(s)

Description: A beginning/intermediate book designed to cover the most neglected portions of a lesson, "scales, sight-reading and aural" [improvisation]. This book requires that a student identify and write out the notes of the scale and arpeggio, and includes a finger flexibility exercise, two etudes and a composition/improv assignment for each key. At the end of each scale section there is a report card for each facet of the lesson. The progression of scales is similar to the Suzuki repertoire, F Major, G Major, e minor, B-flat Major, D Major, etc. Perhaps more appropriate for an intermediate student who has mastered third octave fingerings up to G3, complex articulation markings and dotted rhythms. This book is used by some British teachers as a post- Abracadabra/ AMA Flute 2000 study book.
